· Does City Light, Gas, & Water have coverage in my area?

If you can dial a Kennett number, with an 888 prefix, without long distance charges then yes, we do!!! We have recently begun offering service to customers outside of the Kennett city limits, so if Kennett is a local call, then call us and sign up today.

· Sometimes I have a problem getting disconnected. Is there a way to fix that?

Many times a modem initialization string will fix this problem. You can search for your modem type in the initialization string table and use the appropriate initialization string for your modem.

Other times this problem occurs if you have a poor telephone connectivity and your telephone line cannot handle the communication speed between your modem and the CLGW Internet Server. This may be solved by slowing your modem speed.

· I have a 56Kbps modem. Does CLGW.net support 56K connections?

All of our lines are state of the art 56k v.92 modems delivering the fastest speeds available in Kennett Dialup History! In order to receive maximum speed you must make sure you download the latest V.90 upgrades for your V.90 modem or V.92 upgrades for your V.92 modem (usually free from your modem vendor). The connection speed could vary based on your distance from your telephone company switch, quality of telephone lines in your local area, or telephone wiring in your building. Generally, users with the most current version of 56K V.90, or V.92 will experience connection speeds between 38Kbps and 55Kbps.

· Why is my 28.8 or 33.6 Modem Connecting at 57,600 (or 115,200)?

Your modem is NOT communicating with the remote modem at 115,200 bps! What you are seeing is the speed your PC is talking to your modem, not the speed your modem is communicating with the remote modem.

· Why do I hear the ringing over and over again without connecting?

Either your PC is not dialing 888-3305 or the dial-up server is not functioning correctly. Check to see if you have the correct phone number in your dialer. DO NOT USE AN AREA CODE OF 573 OR ANY AREA CODE. You can also try dialing the number using your phone to see if it beeps at you indicating the dial-up server is functioning, and if it keep ringing, the dial-up server is probably not functioning correctly.

· Why do I get the message, Dial-up Networking was unable to complete the connection?

Either your password is incorrect or your password has expired. Another possibility is that you misspelled your user name or password. Remember that the user name and password are case sensitive, so make sure that you do not have caps locked activated.

· Why do I get a connected icon on my task bar, but I can't display Internet pages or check mail?

You are connected to the dial-up server, but the connection to the CLGW could not be completed or it failed. Try again after a minute to allow time for the dial-up server to dial in and connect to us. If you dial that phone number and get a busy signal, all the lines in the bank are busy, and the dial-up server is unable to connect to the us. So you must try again later. If you dial the phone number and it rings continuously, our server down.

· Why do I get disconnected when I leave my PC to take a break?

You should disconnect before you take a break so that other users can connect. The dial-up server will disconnect you after 15-20 minutes of inactivity.

· Do I get a free web page with my internet account?

Yes you do! CLGW offers a folder for your to post web content to. Call 888-5366 for more info!

· If I am already on Dialup can I use that username and password for my new Wireless access?

Yes you can. No change would have to be made. You will still receive all of your emails just like you always have.

56K FAQ

I have a 56K modem, why don't I get 56Kbps download speeds? - There are many things that affect download speed.  The largest and most common culprit is your telephone lines.  Computers require a good telephone line to get a solid connection to the Internet.  They are a lot more finicky than our ears and can "hear" bits of noise that are inaudible to humans on your telephone line.  If there is any noise on your telephone line, it will negatively affect connection speeds.  Unfortunately, Southwestern Bell only guarantees 1400bps, and if you can get connected at all, Southwesterm Bell is unlikely to fix the problem.  In fact, the problem could be anywhere between your phone jack and the local telephone company's switch.  Which means the dirty line effecting your connection speed could be down the street or even a few blocks away from your house.  Even if you have a second telephone line installed, if the problem is outside your house, you still will not see 56Kbps speeds.  We are all just at the mercy of the telephone companies.

56K FAQ

Why do I have trouble connecting/staying connected to the 56K lines? - As we've mentioned above, there are many things that affect your connection speed.  These same things can affect whether you can get a stable connection at all :

•  Phone lines - The problem could be in your telephone lines.  See The 56K Myth and I have a 56K modem, why don't I get 56Kbps download speeds listed above for more information.

•  Modem incompatibility - A less likely problem could be compatibility with your modem and our modems.  Our 56Kbps lines are using Lucent Ascend V.90 modems, which have one of the widest compatibility ratings among modems.

•  Connect time-out - Since the 56K modems take longer to connect to, sometimes computers will think it is taking too long and disconnect before you even finish connecting.  There is a time-out setting on in your modem's properties.  Under Windows 95 and Windows 98, open your Control Panel .  Open your Modems control panel, then select your modem from the list and click the Properties button.  Click on the Connection tab, and change the setting for Cancel call if not connected in XX secs.   Default is 60 seconds.  90 seconds should be sufficient time to get connected to the 56K lines.

•  Idle time-out - Our servers have no disconnect time-outs, but most dialers on computers disconnect when the connection is idle for 20 minutes.  If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0, open your Control Panel , then open the Internet control panel.  Click on the Connections Tab, select your connection, then click Settings , then click the Advanced button.  You may disable the setting for Disconnect if Idle for XX minutes.   Click the Options tab, then change the setting for Idle time before disconnecting .

The 56K Myth

Yes, 56K is somewhat of a myth.  Many telephone lines cannot push that kind of speed across directly.  Certain areas have better lines and thus better connection speeds than other areas.  Whether you will see 56K largely depends on what area you live in.  Those areas which have been upgraded to fiber optic telephone cabling are more likely to see the faster speed, but it is not guaranteed.  The problem could be anywhere between the phone jack in your house and your local phone company's switch.  If you have a 28.8Kbps or a 33.6Kbps modem and you are not getting your maximum speed from that modem (ie. 26.4Kbps) then upgrading to a 56Kbps modem is unlikely to benefit you.  Another issue could be modem incompatibility.  Our 56K lines are running on Lucent Ascend V.90 modems.  Lucent  modems are one of the most widely compatible server modems and should work with just about every modem out there, but it would be impossible for us to test every modem every made for compatibility
