   The City of Kennett began the production and sale of water in 1913. It was a little more than seven years later that the first wastewater service became available in Kennett. Now City Light, Gas & Water serves over 4700 water and sewer customers. the source of our water supply is four shallow wells.
   When most people turn on their faucets, they do not stop to think of how the water gets to their house. the water and wastewater personnel perform all duties concerning the department installs water mains, new water and sewer lines, makes service taps for residences and businesses and does maintenance on lines, valves, wells and pumps, fire hydrants and lift stations. They normally work a five-day workweek, but must be available to respond to emergencies anytime of day or night.
   Machines such as backhoes, trenchers, water and sewer tappers and jackhammers are all necessary to complete their job. More advanced tools such as lasers are used to laying sewer line on a precision grade.
   Training and testing is available and required from the Department of Natural Resources in operation of the distribution system.
